Immunity for Autumn

Now that the days are starting to draw in, the kids are back at school and ‘normal’ life has resumed; it’s probably time to start looking at how to keep everyone fighting fit over the autumn and winter.

Vitamin C, zinc, and probiotics are three of the best options for overall immune support, and they’re suitable for all* the members of your family. Don’t jump straight to supplements though! You can start by looking at your meals. For vitamin C, start including more dark leafy and cruciferous veg (think Brussels sprouts, broccoli, kale, etc.), bell peppers and fruits like apples and kiwi.

You’ll get lots of zinc if you include more nuts and seeds in your day-to-day. You’ll also be getting it from whole grains you eat, such as oats and quinoa and legumes like chickpeas and lentils. Not to mention your meat and dairy.
For probiotics in food, you can’t go far wrong with the fermented goodies like sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, live yoghurt, etc. You’ll also be doing your gut a favour by eating plenty of fibre, so tuck into your root veg and whole grains for this too. On the subject of your gut, we now know that about 70-80% of our immune system is located in and regulated by our gut! So we really can't stress enough the importance of keeping your gut happy and healthy!

That said, we have supplements for all of the above available if you feel you, or anyone in your family, needs a bit more support in this area too! We’re always happy to have a chat, so come in and ask if you’ve got any burning immunity-based questions!
* Always check supplements against any medications for possible interactions!
